No Surprises Act and Good Faith Estimates
Understanding expected costs
The federal government passed a “No Surprises Act” that went into effect January 1, 2022, in an effort to make sure that healthcare recipients are not surprised by what they are charged for services.
In addition to the “Person Responsible for Payment Consent” form that ABHS requires you to sign when you establish a Client Portal—which states all fees clearly—you can read about your rights under this federal act and request a Good Faith Estimate for your total cost of care.
Requesting a Good Faith Estimate
If you are paying for services out of pocket without any submission to insurance, you may request an initial Good Faith Estimate document from the Intake Coordinator when you call to inquire about an appointment.
The Good Faith Estimate lists examples of what clients paying out of pocket will pay in total for services at ABHS and describes typical courses of treatment.
ABHS cannot tell you the exact total amount you will pay in advance because the total depends upon the number of sessions you attend. You are always free to stop the therapy process at any time.
